6.30-8.30pm (12hrs in total)

Earthrise Pottery Studio, Unit 1 75 Waterworks Road, Worcester WR1 3EZ

A six-week pottery course for those with some previous experience, offering the chance to develop your wheel throwing and handbuilding skills, explore new techniques and work on projects of your own.

Suitable for those who have attended a couple of pottery courses previously, with me or elsewhere, and are ready to develop and refine their skills.

The course offers the flexibility to explore individual projects, experiment with different techniques and focus on areas you’d like to improve, with demonstrations and individual guidance throughout.

There will be a maximum of six people on the course. With four wheels in the studio, you’ll be able to spend around half your time throwing, balanced with time working on handbuilding projects.

Clay, glaze and kiln firing are all included in the course fee. Aprons are provided, but you may also want to wear warm, old clothes.

Cancellation Policy:

You may cancel a course and receive a refund within 14 days of booking.

After 14 days of booking, refunds can only be made if I am able to fill the space, minus a £15 admin fee.

All courses are non-transferable.

In the event that I have to cancel a course, due to unforeseen circumstances, I will offer a refund or rearrange the workshop to a suitable date for most participants.

Further Course Info:

This is a guide to some of the possibilities rather than a fixed programme. I’ll suggest projects and techniques along the way, but you’re also welcome to bring your own ideas and work on projects you’d like to develop.

Weeks 1-5 - Making sessions

The making sessions will combine wheel throwing and hand-building, with a focus on developing existing skills and exploring new techniques rather than covering the basics from scratch.

Some of the techniques and projects we may explore include:

  • Throwing: developing larger forms, refining trimming and footrings.
  • Handles and attachments: making pulled, coiled and slab handles, and learning how to attach and refine them.
  • Lids and matching forms: making lidded jars, boxes and coordinated sets.
  • Altering forms: creating oval dishes, experimenting with altered rims and combining thrown and handbuilt elements.
  • Clay and surface: exploring grogged and coloured clays, marbling and simple inlay techniques.
  • Finishing touches: making your own maker’s mark stamp.
  • Problem-solving: working through individual throwing challenges with guidance, while continuing to develop your own projects.

This list is a selection of possibilities rather than a checklist, and we won’t cover everything. We’ll choose techniques and projects to suit the interests of the group, alongside the individual work you’d like to develop.

Break - Drying and firing

No class this week, allowing time for your work to dry and have its 'bisque' first firing.

Week 6 - Glazing

Exploring glaze colours and finishes, and learning how to glaze your finished pieces.

---

Your finished pots will have a final firing and you will be able to collect them around two weeks after the course ends.
